Auriga is a stunningly fitted out 62’ narrowboat in a sleek Orion Boats shell, built to the original owners exacting specifications with no expense spared. It is powered by a recently overhauled Gardner 2LW in its own smart engine room which also contains the comprehensive and high quality electrical systems.
The boat is entered via the long recessed tug deck front, protected by a cratch cover. In this area is a deep storage locker which also contains the Vetus bow thruster. Four could comfortably dine al fresco here.
Descending into the main cabin, the warmth and quality of the woodworking is the immediate sensation, beautifully designed screens hide the gunnel level fin rads. The joinery throughout was by the first owners own joinery company. The good sized saloon features a Morso Squirrel solid fuel stove and space for chairs. Ceiling mounted speakers run from a concealed stereo unit. The L-shaped dinette sofa sits behind the stove unit and the space also holds a large storage chest and small ottoman seat.
The galley is light and uncluttered, having no high level units. The popular Vanette hob/oven combi units feature (with extractor fan over), with a hidden 12v fridge and 240V washing machine. Plenty of storage in here as well.
The bathroom comes next, entered from the starboard side, stylish Vintage green tiling and a decent sized shower cubicle are complemented by the elegant corner sink and Thetford cassette unit.
Into the heart of Auriga, a very clean and well designed engine space, all electrics hidden behind scumbled panels, doors cleverly removable to allow ease of access, and batteries hidden under floor.
The bedroom is a clever adaptation of a traditional back cabin and features a full size double bed with cupboards designed to reflect the traditional furniture in working boats. The lovely scumbling and rear door artwork is by Dave Moore. There is lots of storage here, including drawers under the bed and even the boats control panel is hidden away by a scumbled panel.
230v power is supplied by either the 2kw inverter/ charger, the landline or the 3.5kw Whisper Generator. 12v is supplied from the bank of 5 domestic batteries (120ah) and two starters (topped up by 2x240w of solar power), with a galvanic isolator on board. The lights are all LED.
Auriga is an absolutely unique boat, ready to go for long distance cruising with every power and heating need covered comprehensively. Its beating heart of a Gardner along with its sleek lines and wonderful wood make this a boat eager to explore new pastures in comfort and style whilst turning heads along the way.
