Songbird is a charming 57’ trad stern narrowboat, with a modern and light feel throughout. She was built and fitted out in 1997 by David Piper, and has been modernised through the years. She is in good condition inside and out.
She has recently been blacked (April 2021), with new cratch and pigeon box covers in 2020. She was also fitted with a new engine in 2017, with very few hours on the clock since.
The well deck features useful storage lockers either side, which also double up as external seating, with views out from the glazed cratchboard over the bow.
This leads through glazed double doors to the large saloon (11’10”). There is a Hamlet multi fuel stove (new in 2020), a 2 seater sofa which converts to a spare double, a 22” TV/DVD combo mounted opposite, and a gateleg dining table. With a cupboard at one end, a moveable coffee table, and space inside the gateleg table, there are plenty of storage options too.
The galley follows and consists of a Rangemaster oven & grill, 4 burner gas hob, LEC fridge with icebox, a sink recessed into the solid beech worktop, and plenty more cupboards for storage. There are side doors either side, with roof hatches, and steps up on the port side, filling this space with natural light and fresh air.
A door leads into the walk through bathroom. This has a quadrant enclosed shower, ceramic sink over vanity unit, and a Sani Marin pumpout loo.
At 16’ 4” long, the bedroom is a real feature of this boat, with a modern take on a traditional boatmans cabin. There is a 6’4” x 4’0” fixed bed, with plenty of cupboards, shelves, drawers & a double wardrobe for storage. An 18.5” TV sits at the base of the bed.
One of the large cupboards in the second half of this room houses the Hotpoint washing machine, and could double up as an additional wardrobe if required. Opposite sits a fixed bench, with additional storage under and over.
The Barrus Shire 30 engine is housed under the rear steps, which lead out on to the stern deck.
She is well equipped with 12v power supplied by the x2 domestic batteries, 230v is from the 1500W Duritic inverter, or landline, and all the lighting is LED.
She is centrally heated by an Eberspacher diesel heater, connected to 3 radiators and the calorifier. Hot water is also heated by the engine and an immersion heater when on landline.
Songbird is a well thought out boat, with plenty of features to enhance liveaboard life or extended cruising.
