Baleine is a stunning semi-trad narrowboat built by Tyler Wilson and fitted out by Jim Birch of Oakcraft Narrowboats. Originally built at 58’ she was stretched in 2019 to 62’, with the additional 4’ also fitted out by Jim Birch.
She is fitted out in pine tongue and groove, and reclaimed timber (including from Buckingham Palace), with some of timbers painted using Farrow & Ball paint. She also benefits from a blacking, 10 new anodes, and full engine service in December 2023.
The well deck is 5’1” and has plenty of space for a table and chairs.
Steps lead down into the 12’ 9” saloon. The quality of the craftmanship inside is immediately obvious. Here there is a Puffin solid fuel stove, 2 reclining armchairs, Cello 22” TV, JVC CD/radio (with speakers throughout), 2x under floor wine racks, and plenty of cupboards and shelves for storage. There are 3 glazed windows with side hatch style external doors for privacy.
Next is the 6’1” dinette area, with an L-shaped fixed bench, and drawers under, which easily converts to a spare double. With the addition of a small table here, this could easily seat 4 or more for dinner. An under floor larder cupboard keeps food items cool, and a starboard side hatch brings in additional light and fresh air.
The 8’ 2” galley follows, with a Heritage range (heating 2 radiators and a copper pipe towel rail, and also provides hot water along with the engine), beautifully crafted oak worktops (a Jim Birch feature!), ceramic Belfast sink, 230v Caple fridge with icebox, and an incredible amount of cupboards and shelves, theres even a plate rack!
A small office is next, with a full height bookshelf and storage space, and wooden desk with reading lights over.
Following, the 4’ 9” bathroom features a custom built shower tray with Fired Earth tiled surround and glass door, SaniMarin pumpout loo, and ceramic wash basin.
The 10’ 11” bedroom is in the aft cabin, with a cross bed. There are drawers under, drawers and cupboards either side, cupboards over, and a full height single wardrobe. One of these cupboards houses a Zanussi Aquacycle washing machine. A starboard side hatch brings in additional light and fresh air.
Steps lead out onto the semi-trad stern deck, with wooden topped lockers either side. The Beta 43 engine is housed below. Navigation is improved with a Crowther propeller, to help on rivers.
12v power is provided by 4x 135ah domestics, with a separate starter, topped up by 600w of solar with an Epever solar charge controller. 240v power is provided by a Victron Mulitplus 3000w inverter/charger.
Lighting onboard is LED throughout.
You will not see another boat like this any time soon!
